Before the appearance of this series, the pre-thirteenth-century documents of Yorkshire were largely unpublished. This thirteen-volume collection, published intermittently between 1914 and 1965, was well respected for its extensive nature and the high quality of its editing by William Farrer (1861-1924) and then Sir Charles Travis Clay (1885-1978).
Published in thirteen volumes (1914-65), this extensive and highly regarded series contains charters and deeds from pre-thirteenth-century Yorkshire.
