Thunder in the Sun is the fourth in the continuing Llewellyn family saga.
Carrie in her new role of District Nurse finds that she has far more to deal with than patients recovering from minor ailments. She takes charge of organising a troop of evacuated children escaping the Blitz in London and finding them safe houses in which to stay. Some are lucky but some are not so fortunate and Carrie's life is flooded with incidents of cruelty, rape and heart-wrenching drama.
From dealing with a vicious woman who desires her own Cinderella slave, and is too blind to see the paedophile grooming her and her children, Carrie is forced to act, removing one child to Hendre.
Carrie's own emotions are in turmoil when she is torn between two lovers. For others in the Welsh valley the arrival of more Land Girls causes havoc among the men in Crynant. Tragedy also strikes her best friend Megan and cousin Thomas, and heartache engulfs Carrie's brother John, and his wife, Jenny.
The peace and happiness Carrie craves is snatched from her when fate deals a crooked hand and takes her fiancé, Michael Lawrence, back to war. A brutal time for them both. Will she wait for Michael's possible return? Or will she finally give into Matthew's gentle longing?
As always, Carrie's inner strength shines through and her indomitable spirit rises above the many horrific ordeals set before her and her family. In a race against time, will she fulfil Ernie's prophecy or will she languish and repent at her own peril?
