I love writing plays. It's a lot of fun. Getting a play produced is another matter. It's easy to find actors but to find a really good producer is really hard. Believe me, I've tried. I have written plays on all kinds of topics but these two plays and a short monologue about cockroaches is really dear to my heart. I am from New York City and I've lived in all kinds of places - most of them had cockroaches in them. You find them everywhere! Now, I read an article about people meeting giant talking cockroaches here in the city and well, who knows, right? It really doesn't matter, does it? The idea took off in my imagination and the first play I wrote about these giant, talking cockroaches is "The Uninvited Guests." It's a very funny play and it has been staged - well, not exactly. You see, the play was given to a director who completed screwed up the production and well, I'll just leave it at that. (I always try to stage my plays myself, if I can). Now, the next cockroach play - "Dreams of a Better Life" - is actually my secret autobiography. It's the story of an outsider - someone who doesn't fit into any world. The main character, Jem, is too smart for the cockroaches and well, he doesn't fit into the human world, either. But you know, everyone feels this way at some point in their lives. I really like this play for obvious reasons and sadly, it has not been produced - yet. I am hoping that someone reading the play will step forward and produce the play - that would be great!
