Russell T. McCutcheon is a University Research Professor and the chair of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama. Through a number of authored and edited or co-edited books - from Manufacturing Religion and Critics Not Caretakers to the Guide to the Study of Religion and Studying Religion: An Introduction - he invites readers to crack open the academic study of religion and critically examine its presuppositions and methods, charting a rigorous course forward for the discipline.
