Leisure: An Introduction provides a broad and lively understanding of the meaning, significance and scope of leisure in modern day society. The book achieves this by exploring key concepts and theories, along with examples and case studies, to illustrate the complexity of leisure. The authors offer a global and interdisciplinary perspective on the main issues associated with the study of leisure and highlight the evolution and development of many of the key debates in the field of leisure studies.
Throughout the book, case studies are incorporated to introduce a number of contemporary themes in the use of leisure time. The book provides a broad overview of the processes and factors which affect the development of leisure experiences in different environments, including unique perspectives such as leisure in developing countries. In addition, the book covers the measures necessary to facilitate, manage and control leisure activities as well as presenting the significance of leisure as a phenomenon which impacts upon peoples everyday lives and the environment.
