Hattie Bree has been swallowed by a whale. She is considerably more curious about it than frightened.
Waking inside what can only be the enormous, blubbery belly of a sea whale, Hattie quickly discovers that she is not alone. Others have been swallowed before her, and they have been trapped long enough to learn one important lesson: hope does not survive very well in here.
Hattie, however, is new.
Armed with an inconvenient amount of curiosity, an instinct for asking the questions everyone else has stopped asking, and the peculiar resourcefulness of someone who does not yet understand what is supposed to be impossible, she begins investigating the strange world inside the beast.
